I Am Island and Sea – Tīkapa Moana, Mauri Ora!

Inspired by Ko Pātaka Kai O Tīkapa Moana, Te Moananui-ā-Toi – The Hauraki Gulf. Focussing on seabirds and underwater species that need our attention.

"We're on a tipping point now, this is environmental collapse. ”James Frankham – New Zealand Geographic Director on the state of the Hauraki Gulf Report, April 2020.

Exhibition/installation - The NZ Maritime Museum

October 2021 - May 2022

The work combined clay paper figures, paper light boxes and diorama style sculpture.

Carrying the sounds of our rare birds and in particular our local sea birds.

The sound also captured the thoughts and ideas of primary school aged children, about the planet, its challenges and their uplifted envisaging of a future where respect and care is shown to all things.
